CHARLESTON, SC, BANS PIGEONS FROM PARK
CHARLESTON, SC: Thanks to continuous pressure from the Pigeon Resistance, the city of Charleston, South Carolina, has banned pigeons from one of its most popular parks. White Point Gardens, at the tip of the city's peninsula, has been declared a pigeon-free zone.
The city experienced a number of problems with vast flocks of pigeons that lived and fed in the gardens. So voluminous were their numbers that they often intimidated and drove citizens out of the park. The small Pigeon Resistance branch in the city became increasingly concerned about the situation when it was discovered that as many as twenty people had been set upon by the birds and captured by the hive mind in the last six months.
The Pigeon Resistance took action, first by advertising its services in the park and keeping guards present on a 24 hour basis, and then by lobbying the city to outlaw the distribution of food to pigeons in the park. The anti-pigeon ordinance issued by the city in response to this pressure not only bans food distribution but also has provisions for constant monitoring of the gardens by the Parks Council.
